My RioRondo Order

I placed my first order from RioRondo! I got everything I needed (if I got everything I wanted the whole website would be sold out lol)

The most obvious thing is one of their western saddle kits. I also got an extra saddle tree so I could make another after my first practice one.

 

And a western accessories kit. 

I also got some beautiful teal leather for all kinds of projects! Teal is my favorite color…(in case you can’t tell by looking at my workspace lol)

And now for all the hardware!


Lots of halter rings, three and two slotted. I was going to get gold but I forgot and now they’re of sold out! Darn it!

Lots of cool bits; English on the right, western on the left.

On the sample sheet(Where most of the stuff came from) There were these two super tiny, two slotted halter rings. They’re too big for stablemate and too small for classic so I’m assuming that they are Schleich (1:24) scale.

The sample sheet also had a bunch of D rings!!!

I got some nameplates

And girth buckles

And I got two of these western show halter sheets.

I also got two pairs of traditional stirrups!

That’s it! I am super happy to finally have realistic hardware! I already switched out some of the halter rings some of my old halters. And I made a western show halter.

Tada!!!!

I know it’s a bit too big for her… But she’s the only quarter horse I have😅




I just love it so much!!! I’m going to make another and sell one. Probably after Breyerfest because then I’ll have another Quarter horse (Athena) to try it on and keep whichever one fits them both best.

    Wow, that looks really good! (...I am a little bit envious not gonna lie 😅)
    I can't wait to see how the saddle turns out! Oh, and this is kinda random, but I FINALLY tried your halter squares tutorial, and it is SO HELPFUL! I love the cute little halter squares that I managed to make. They're a little bit lopsided, but as it was my first attempt, I'm pretty happy with them! Thank you so much for the tutorial!🙂

Practice Makes Perfect

A few weeks back, I got some new leather lace. So I decided that it was time to make some halters. My first victim was Snowman. His mold is the perfect one to try things on, in my opinion. (And he needed a new halter anyway) Here’s how it came out: As usual, I made all the hardware myself. I can’t really afford to get a bunch from Rio Rondo.    But this was my first attempt at a rolled throat latch. I am very pleased with how it came out. :) I think Snowman is pleased too! After I completed the first halter, I was just dying to make another. This time I made one for my  favorite Breyer , Adamek. I used all the same techniques, but this time I tried adding little stitch marks to all the leather. I was really happy with that one too, but I still felt that I could do better. NaMoPaiMo

 Well, I meant to get this posted a week ago, but better late than never! For those of you who don’t know, NaMoPaiMo stands for National Model Painting Month. It was founded by Jennifer Buxton in 2017. You have one month (February) to paint and complete a model horse. You can find more information on  this  page   of  Jennifer Buxton’s blog . Anyway, long story short, I signed up for this year(my first year!)  So introducing my NaMoPaiMo model… I’ve started painting her twice and stripped her twice. This time I’m determined to get it right! I mean third times a charm right? If all goes according to plan, she will be a dappled grey with a stripe and possibly a few socks by February 29! I also have a few side projects… This little girl will be a chestnut like her mom,  April Showers . I also want to get this guy painted as some kind of bay… I’m not sure if I’ll be doing a red bay, dark bay, etc.   I sanded down his head a little bit to make him more Arabian-typey And my last side project

This and That

 I haven’t made a bunch of stuff lately, but I’ll show you what I did make :) First… A blanket for Dream Catcher.  I am very happy with this one! It’s my favorite blanket so far! (Then again, I say that with every single one I make 😂. I guess that means I’m getting better 😅) Then of course I had to make a rope halter to match and take a few pictures… (I made a matching lead rope too, but forgot to take a picture of it) Then I got my leather out and made some boots! I didn’t have mini magnets for the straps, so I improvised! (But mini magnets are being shipped as I write😉) I found some metal thingies that look like long skinny nails… and put the head through the leather. I’ll be making more as soon as the magnets come. This way is  waaayyyy to time consuming! And on other news… Breyerfest tickets are FINALLY on sale! I haven’t gotten mine yet but I will soon. And Breyer is doing a giveaway for leap year!
