Polkadot Princess

 Luckily, my cold turned out to be more of the 24 hour type so I was back to work a few days ago. I’ve had quite a few things that I’ve been meaning to paint, but never really felt like doing it recently. But after getting sick, that’s all I wanted to do. So I painted a pony!! And not just any pony; my first Appaloosa!                                   

I had an old Schliech Pinto Shetland pony sitting around and decided that she’d be my test model ;) she came out waaaayyyy better than I expected! Not bad for a first Appaloosa I’d say!!!

    Wow! You did an AMAZING job on her! Well done! The only color that I'm decent at repainting is a really dark bay, and here you are doing appys, chestnuts, pintos, and more! What medium do you use? I generally use a mix of acrylics and pastel, but I'm wondering if there's any other/better methods.

      Thank you!!! I used acrylics for her but a going to try out pastels soon too. Honestly, I don’t really know many other methods, I’ve only been painting horses for about 6 months😅
      But I do recommend looking at https://modelhorsetutorials.weebly.com/ under the painting section. Lots of great tutorials using a ton of different techniques.

Practice Makes Perfect

A few weeks back, I got some new leather lace. So I decided that it was time to make some halters. My first victim was Snowman. His mold is the perfect one to try things on, in my opinion. (And he needed a new halter anyway) Here’s how it came out: As usual, I made all the hardware myself. I can’t really afford to get a bunch from Rio Rondo.    But this was my first attempt at a rolled throat latch. I am very pleased with how it came out. :) I think Snowman is pleased too! After I completed the first halter, I was just dying to make another. This time I made one for my  favorite Breyer , Adamek. I used all the same techniques, but this time I tried adding little stitch marks to all the leather. I was really happy with that one too, but I still felt that I could do better. NaMoPaiMo

 Well, I meant to get this posted a week ago, but better late than never! For those of you who don’t know, NaMoPaiMo stands for National Model Painting Month. It was founded by Jennifer Buxton in 2017. You have one month (February) to paint and complete a model horse. You can find more information on  this  page   of  Jennifer Buxton’s blog . Anyway, long story short, I signed up for this year(my first year!)  So introducing my NaMoPaiMo model… I’ve started painting her twice and stripped her twice. This time I’m determined to get it right! I mean third times a charm right? If all goes according to plan, she will be a dappled grey with a stripe and possibly a few socks by February 29! I also have a few side projects… This little girl will be a chestnut like her mom,  April Showers . I also want to get this guy painted as some kind of bay… I’m not sure if I’ll be doing a red bay, dark bay, etc.   I sanded down his head a little bit to make him more Arabian-typey And my last side project

This and That

 I haven’t made a bunch of stuff lately, but I’ll show you what I did make :) First… A blanket for Dream Catcher.  I am very happy with this one! It’s my favorite blanket so far! (Then again, I say that with every single one I make 😂. I guess that means I’m getting better 😅) Then of course I had to make a rope halter to match and take a few pictures… (I made a matching lead rope too, but forgot to take a picture of it) Then I got my leather out and made some boots! I didn’t have mini magnets for the straps, so I improvised! (But mini magnets are being shipped as I write😉) I found some metal thingies that look like long skinny nails… and put the head through the leather. I’ll be making more as soon as the magnets come.
